Waverley Gin 70cl
Waverley Gin is a limited edition release from The Isle of Cumbrae Distillers in collaboration with Waverley Steam Navigation Co. Ltd.
Waverley is the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer and was gifted to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS) for £1 in 1974. Throughout her preservation career Waverley has required support to remain operational. A portion of the sale of this bottle will support the Waverley charity fund, which keeps this historic steamer on the waves.
This recipe was a SILVER award-winner at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2022. It's a contemporary style gin with three featured botanicals of Pineapple, Mango and Elderberry, which results in a lovely mild sweetness with a deeper spicy and orange flavoured finish.
The Waverley Gin label is designed by Ruth Slater, a contemporary artist from the Isle of Bute. The design, which is heat pressed onto the glass and creates a permanent label and a wonderful keepsake long after the gin is gone, pays homage to the Waverley and its origins. Find out more below!

Tasting Notes
NOSE: Fresh fruity aromas of pine-forward juniper, pineapple and mango.
PALATE: The first sip brings forward the mild sweetness of the pineapple and mango, then deepens with the spiced flavours of Elderberry and pink peppercorn. The flavours are finally pulled together and rounded off with orange.
The serve: This gin can be enjoyed neat, over ice or in a classic G&T., with a splash of your favourite light tonic and a slice of orange or pineapple.
The Waverley Gin Label
"When we set out to design the label, we wanted to make sure we found a local artist who understood the special place that Waverley has in so many people's hearts. We chose talented Bute artist Ruth Slater. Ruth is a contemporary artist who creates truly unique art in various media; her art captures the personality, the very essence of her subject, in this case, the Waverley, the world's last oceangoing paddle steamer. In our label, the Waverley is sailing past the Cloch Lighthouse with a gorgeous oyster catcher watching as she passes. And do you see the cross in the sky? We often see airplane trails crossing to form the Scottish saltire, a testimony to her origins. And finally, our gorgeous funnel neck tie!" - Isle of Cumbrae Distillers
Isle of Cumbrae Distillers
The Isle of Cumbrae Distillers was established by five full and part-time “Millportonians” and made history as one of the few all-female distilling teams in Scotland, and the only international women’s team, drawing representation from the UK, Canada and the USA.
They create unique Scottish craft gins distilled with the highest quality botanicals, reflecting the landscape and flora of their island. Having won a number of international awards for their gins, including Gold at The Gin Masters and Bronze at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in their first year of trading, they have certainly put Millport firmly on the gin map in Scotland.
In 2024, after five incredible years, our local heroes - well, heroines - at the Isle of Cumbrae Distillery are passing the baton to a brand new leadership team! Caroline Christie and Struan Fraser from Kilwinning have now taken on full management of the distillery and will work alongside the original Fab Five of Bronwyn, Juli, Lynda, Philippa, and Jenine over the next 2-3 years to ensure a smooth transition.
You can read more about the transition on our blog.
