Keith Aherne from Tullibardine Distillery hosting our November 2019 Masterclass

Last night's Whisky Masterclass with Irishman, Keith Aherne, was another sell out event at Geraldo's with 20 attendees tasting a line up of 6 stunning whisky expressions from this independently owned distillery based in Blackford in Perthshire.

Attendees started off with the signature single malt, the Sovereign, with its beautiful golden colour matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels; deliciously creamy with plenty of vanilla and a touch of spice.

They then went on to experience the taste variations in each of the 3 wood finished whiskies beginning with the 225 Sauternes Cask Finish with its citrussy lime notes and lingering creamy finish, followed by the 228 Burgundy Cask Finish which was rich and spicy with hints of chocolate and Turkish Delight.  With a nod to our Irish host this was complemented by some of our Hadji Bey's Turkish Delight from Cork in Ireland which was passed round to accompany it.  This was the favourite of the night of all 3 but we think it was our exquisite Turkish Delight that swayed them!

The 500 Sherry Cask Finish went down well too with its taste of toffee apples and spicy finish - a perfect whisky for your bonfire night celebrations.  As the 'craic' began to flow there was much excitement for the latest, limited release of The Murray, bottled at a cask strength of 56.6%.  It's soft, creamy taste was the perfect balance of caramel, biscuit, vanilla and citrus.  This was hugely popular on the night with advance orders for more, more, more please!

Finally, there was the ultimate treat and a few moments of silence hit the room whilst Keith was able to get a few words in about the incredible Tullibardine 25 year old. With its rich notes of spice, cooked fruit and orange peel with a long, silky finish, we reckon this will be a winner for someone special this Christmas.  Pure decadence as the man himself put it!

As the night drew to a close, we wished our guests farewell as they walked into the cold night with a warm glow of whisky radiating from every one of them and a smile that said it all.
