World Rum Day at Geraldo's

2023 marks the 5th Annual World Rum Day, established by spirits writer and editor of the World Rum Guide, Paul Jackson, in collaboration with rum bars, distilleries, rum brands and spirits writers across the world. World Rum Day aims to highlight and support the richness and diversity of rums and distilleries across the world.

From its origins as "a hot, hellish, and terrible liquor" found primarily in Caribbean sugar plantations to a pirate's perfect tipple, rum has had quite the history. Now, it ranks as one of the most popular alcoholic drinks in the UK, with more than a quarter of British consumers opting for a rum-based drink and only 15% choosing beer!

Rum at Geraldo's

Although we may be well known for our whisky and gin ranges, we at Geraldo's do love our rum, too. It comes from being seaside folk, you see! Much like our other premium spirits, we aim to showcase local, small-batch brands that you can't find in the local supermarket.

Whether you're new to rum or a seasoned sipper, we've picked out a few of our favourites that are sure to spice up your summer!

Titan Scottish Spiced Rum

Produced in Gourock by three friends who set out to develop a spiced rum that was a nod to the juxtaposition of their industrial heritage set against Inverclyde’s backdrop of immense natural beauty.

Carefully selected aged Caribbean rums have been selected to provide the perfect base spirit for Titan Spiced Rum. It is then infused with Scottish raspberries, golden syrup and exotic spices, blended with the finest Caledonian water.

Serve: Smooth enough to sip neat or try with your favourite mixer over ice.

Beckford's White Pearl

Think of Blue sky, white sand and a glass of Beckford’s delicious Coconut Rum, this amazing drink is silky smooth and leaves you wanting more, made with the finest baby coconuts from the Caribbean.

Serve: Champagne Colada

Start with champagne or Prosecco, add a splash of cream/coconut milk, pineapple juice or pink lemonade, add in a measure of Beckford's White Pearl and serve over crushed ice, garnished with a slice of Pineapple.

Spiced Bothy Rum

Scotland's only 3-star Great Taste Award winning rum. Handcrafted in Scotland. The team at Bothy Spirits hand batch their spirits, blending distilled and cask-aged rums with spices, including saffron hand-picked in the Strathmore Valley.

The end result is something rather special — a premium, full-strength, sweet sipping rum with base notes of saffron, orange and mixed spice.

Serve: Best enjoyed neat or over ice.

Hall's 3 Year Old Spiced Rum

A spiced version of the Golden Caribbean rum, bottled for Hall’s of Campbeltown.

A delicately smooth blend, bottled at 43% vol, this delicately spiced golden rum sings out with orange, vanilla, cassia, allspice and ginger.

Serve: Pair it with a premium cola or ginger ale, or go wild with a rum cocktail. We love a daiquiri or a mojito!

Don Papa 7 Year Old Rum

Don Papa rum is produced on the island of Negros, or Sugarlandia as it’s known to the locals in The Phillipines. This rich, smooth rum captures the quality of the island’s sugarcane grown in rich volcanic soils, its local ageing in oak for over seven years, and the skill of Don Papa’s blenders.

Named after Papa Isio, a revolutionary hero in the Philippines’s War for Independence in the 1890s, Don Papa is inspired by this courageous figure and is the embodiment of the spirit of Sugarlandia.

Serve: Negrense Sour

Ingredients:

  • 45ml Don Papa 7 Year Old
  • 22.5ml fresh lime juice
  • 5ml simple syrup
  • 2 drops hopped grapefruit bitters
  • 1 egg white or 1/3 of a dropper (approx. 3ml) of Ms. Better’s Miraculous Foamer Bitters (for an egg-free alternative)
  • Lime twist to garnish

  1. Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake without ice for 10-12 seconds.
  2. Add ice and shake for another 10 seconds before straining over fresh ice in a rocks glass.

Boukman Rhum

A wildly authentic botanical rum from Haiti. Boukman Rhum is the ultimate expression of Haiti's traditional clairin trempè, fresh cane juice rhum infused with barks, citrus peel and botanicals. The result is a complex, dry and versatile spirit that captures the best of Haiti's terroir and rhum culture.

Boukman Rhum is created in partnership with non-profit Haiti Futur, which Adrian Keogh, Boukman's Founder has been a member of for 18 years. 10% of profits are reinvested in digital education and entrepreneurship.

Serve: On the rocks with an orange twist or long with coconut water.
