This smooth Pinot Gris stems from careful fruit selection, cool fermentation and extended lees contact. Boasting aromas of intense pear and peach, with just a hint of florals, this wine has a smooth mouth-feel and a refreshing length and finish.

Robust enough to serve alongside spicy Korean BBQ, BBQ pork or creamy mushrooms.

Producer Profile

Dayne and Jill Sherwood founded their wine estate in 1987, at a time when few people in New Zealand, including them, fully understood the wine industry.

Together, they have built the company from a small 20-acre block in north Canterbury to one of New Zealand’s largest family-owned and independent wineries. Their customer-built winery in the Waipara Valley may have seemed huge at the time, but now it is bursting at the seams with epic wines, exuding great balance under the meticulous winemaking of Chief Winemaker Petter Evans.

Viticulture
Fruit was harvested from the Pilgrim vineyard in the heart of the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury.

Winemaking
It is a complex, concentrated wine that is a real favourite to make, as it combines a number of different winemaking techniques on individual parcels of grapes, which are later blended together. Some of these portions are fermented as whole berries (carbonic maceration) another in small oak barrels, another uses oxidised grapes. These are just some of the techniques that build complexity into the wine.

Tasting Notes

Careful fruit selection, cool fermentation and extended lees contact has produced a Pinot Gris with intense pear and peach aromas with hints of elegant florals. The wine has a smooth mouth-feel with refreshing length and finish.
