13 - Saltire Malts Craigellachie 17 Year Old 48.8% Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl
There's an immediate sulphury note, the signature note of a true Speyside dram from Craigellachie. Sugared slices of orange, cedar wood, cigar boxes, tobacco and leather. Like walking into your grandfather’s study. It is more spicy than fruity, but after a while preserved cherries appear next to maple syrup. Let it breathe for a while and note the beautiful flavour development. A powerful and savoury dram, either after dinner or with game. The finish is lush with a distinct sherry note. A lot of WOW-appeal, both for complexity and balance.

Distillery: Craigellachie
In 1890 the distillery in the eponymous village was founded by Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie. After Mackie’s demise in 1924 the company is renamed Withe Horse Distillers, also owning Lagavulin distillery on Islay. Three years later DCL (the early forerunner of Diageo) purchases the group and still owns Lagavulin, but sold Craigellachie to Bacardi in 1998. There is also a famous hotel with the same name, which harbours the Quaich bar, known worldwide for its broad range of single malts. The Craigellachie Bridge, built by Thomas Telford, is a distinctive landmark right across the hotel and the distillery.
