The Teasmith Gin
Teasmith Gin is a Scottish craft gin distilled with hand-picked tea. Carefully blended by husband and wife team, Nick and Emma Smalley, this gin is light on the palate with a distinct, crisp freshness.
Nick and Emma were inspired by the rich heritage of the North East of Scotland and its links to the tea trade to use this intriguing botanical. They source the finest and rarest speciality tea and distil it with carefully selected botanicals that complement and match the unique flavours that the tea provides.
The Teasmith Story
With a long held love for gin, Nick and Emma were encouraged by the emerging craft gin movement, and in 2015, they decided to embark on their own journey into the exciting spirits sector. Seeking inspiration from their surroundings in rural Aberdeenshire, they made a surprising discovery that linked their corner of Scotland with the beginnings of the 19th century tea trade in Sri Lanka. In 1867, a gentleman called James Taylor from Auchenblae planted the very first tea plantation there, beginning a process that would turn the island into one of the world’s finest tea-growing regions.
Keen to craft a gin that spoke of their local heritage, they set about sourcing a Sri Lankan tea for their gin’s key botanical. Working closely with tea consultant, Beverley-Claire Wainwright, they selected a very special tea from the island’s Amba Estate. Hand-picked and hand-rolled just as James Taylor would have nurtured his first batches 150 years ago, this unique tea offered a complex flavour profile upon distillation that was perfect for their requirements, and The Teasmith Gin was born.
Best served long with a sprig of mint, copious ice and quality tonic, The Teasmith is the refreshing choice of a new generation of gin connoisseurs.
